Hi everyone,
I am new to this site...just joined the group today! I am 20 and have run either track or cross country since 7th grade. I am an active person and love to run, bike ride, go to the gym...anything that keeps me healthy and happy! As of last week, I've had to stop running and exercising completely because I had surgery to fix a deviated septum, among other things. I am going crazy without exercise...does anyone have tips on how to maintain at least some of my fitness and muscle during this time off? I think that I'm going to try the stationary bike tomorrow...we'll see how that goes.

I love running as well and I know how you feel...I broke my foot last year and was in a cast for 3 months!! My trainer kept me active with upper body workouts - but was careful not to bulk me up too much - once I was in my 3rd cast he slowly started me on lightweight exercises...all of course on the Doctors approval. Hang in there kid - you'll be running marathons in no time.
1So spend what used to be your running time on here! You'll make lots of friends, get lots of support, and before you know it, your time will be up and you can run again.
2Thanks for the comments
I did end up spending 40 mins on the stationary bike today. I felt so much better afterwards, and I'm looking forward to working out again tomorrow.
And Marci..I've been racking up points these past few days! Believe me, I have been spending a lot of time on this site lol. It's a great site though. I love it so far
3Welcome to the group! I know exactly how you must feel, I run 5 times a week and play tennis, and stay very active. Last year I had surgery and it kept me from running for about 2 months, not that long, but long enough for me to go crazy! Like others mentioned, I did the stationary bike and some yoga and then eased myself back up to walking on the treadmill and then to running again! Good luck and let us know how you are doing!
4Yoga is a good idea. I know that my mom has tapes lying around the house. I did the stationary bike for about 30 mins today, and I'm planning on going for a walk tomorrow morning. I'm so happy that the weather is nice again
5Alright, I got the "ok" from the doc today to start running again. I think that I'll wait for a few more days because I'm still pretty sore. The bike is going well, though. I've been doing an intense hour-long hill workout every afternoon.
